milsoms is a Victorian country house built in 1850 and was bought by Dorothy and Arthur Milsom in 1959. They ran it until 1981 when their son Gerald Milsom transformed it into the Dedham Vale Hotel and Terrace restaurant. Twenty years later, Geraldine Milsom transformed the building into a stylish bar and brasserie which is very much the heartbeat of milsoms. milsoms also has two rooms which are ideal for small meetings from 8 to 24 delegates.
eat...The style of cooking at milsoms is best described as global with Head Chef Stas Anastasiades taking his influences from all around the world.
Within three weeks of opening the restaurant was awarded an AA rosette for its cooking. In the main restaurant the seating is arranged on two levels. The terrace is very much an extension of the dining area with a huge sail canopy and heaters with the added dimension of the stunning gardens outside dining is a reality for much of the year.
An a la carte menu is available at lunch and dinner times. There are always daily specials available with the chefs taking full advantage of local and seasonal produce. In the afternoons a special ‘pm’ menu is available comprising of several items from the a la carte menu. The younger members of the family haven’t been left out at milsoms with a specially designed menu to suit smaller appetites!

Our fifteen stylish en-suite bedrooms all have crisp white linen, duvets and fluffy towels and are all equipped with mini bar, satellite television and tea making facilities.
We run an exciting and informal hotel that offers good value and professional service in a relaxed environment. The interior design was the work of Paul's wife, Geraldine. She has transformed the building with her distinct contemporary design, a mix of natural flooring, surfaces and colours that enhance the original features of the building.
Heading up the team at milsoms is executive chef/general manager Stas Anastasiades, along with accommodation manager, Gemma Graves, restaurant managers Zoran Durdevic and Matt Bain and bar manager Grant Jones.
Six rooms can be used as twin or double the remaining nine are doubles. One room has disabled facilities. Rooms are in three categories; deluxe, superior and standard. The facilities in all rooms are of the same high standard but generally the size of room determines the category.
private diningAlthough we say there is a no booking policy at milsoms, we do in fact have two superb rooms that can be booked for private lunches and dinners or small meetings.
The library is available for parties of between eight and fourteen people. This makes for the ideal family get together, celebration or business function. The library is at the front of the house overlooking the gardens.
A restricted menu offering a choice of four or five dishes for each course is available, as is our extensive range of fine wines.
Set amongst the back drop of milsoms famous gardens with French doors opening onto a private terrace mr g’s is no ordinary function room and available for larger parties of between fourteen and twenty four. Featuring state of the art B & O audio visual equipment and accomplished interior design by Geraldine Milsom, this room is ideal for both business meetings and private lunch and dinner parties. Head chef Stas Anastasiades has put together an inspired menu. A chef will cook your meal in an independent kitchen adjoining the suite and a dedicated member of staff will be on hand to serve your meal and drinks. finding us couldn't be easier!From London turn off the M25 at Brentwood onto the A12. Continue on the A12 towards Ipswich, bypassing Colchester.
Take the left exit signposted "Stratford St Mary, Dedham and Higham. Turn right at bottom of hill to Dedham, over bridge and down the hill. Take the first left where the road widens into lay-by.
